China remains the world's top garlic exporter. In Jan-Apr 2026, garlic exports hit 848,500 tons, up 11.6% year-on-year, while export value dropped 15.8%. The market shows a pattern of higher volume but lower prices. Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia, is China's largest garlic import market. Ample domestic supply keeps global garlic prices under pressure, and exporters are strengthening quality control for overseas buyers.
Global garlic supply is sufficient this season. China have good harvests. Heavy supply keeps garlic prices low worldwide. Some markets see growing demand for purple garlic as an economical alternative to white garlic. Rainfall during harvest may cause mould risks and affect shelf life.
